How often does the leaderboard update?

Standings refresh every hour as new votes are counted. The Top 10 you see reflects all matchups completed in the trailing 7 days, with longer-term filters available for monthly and all-time views.

FrameRating is FlickrFight's in-house ELO-style algorithm. It cross-references raw community votes, view-duration signals, and rotating guest-judge verdicts to produce a single numeric rating for every shot that enters a battle.

Can scouts and editors browse the leaderboard?

Yes. The Verified Scout Channel lets approved art buyers and photo editors subscribe to weekly category-winner digests. Browse access to the public Top 100 is free for everyone.

Does appearing on the leaderboard lead to paid work?

We never promise paid work or licensing outcomes. Roughly 14% of weekly category winners receive a commercial licensing inquiry from scout partners within 30 days, but results depend on the shot, category, and buyer demand.

How FrameRating Decides Who Wins

FrameRating is our in-house ELO-style ranking system, built specifically for the unpredictable nature of photo contests where two images are paired head-to-head and judged by whoever clicks the page. Unlike traditional contests — where a single panel votes and the verdict lives in a closed room — every FlickrFight battle is open. That means we needed a system that could weigh thousands of votes fairly without letting a coordinated group push a weak shot to the top.

The first version shipped in 2018. The current algorithm is version 4, rebuilt in 2024, and is the only photo ranking system we know of that cross-references three independent signals at once: raw community votes, view duration on each shot, and a weekly judge-verdict sample.

Community vote, weighted

Each verified voter contributes to the ELO delta. New voters start at 1,200 and climb or fall based on how their picks age — if you back a winner three weeks later, your vote weight rises.

View-duration cross-check

Photos that get clicked but instantly closed lose rating. Photos that hold a viewer for 8+ seconds earn a quiet bonus. This is the anti-screenshot signal — a clever title alone can't carry a dull shot past week two.

Judge-verdict sample

Every Friday, our 96-strong guest-judge panel reviews a random 2% of the week's battles. When their verdict aligns with the community vote, nothing changes. When it diverges by more than 15 points, the shot is flagged for re-judging.

Integrity floor

If a battle's clean-vote percentage falls below 92% — measured by device fingerprinting, voting cooldown curves, and pattern detection — its result is voided and the ELO update is rolled back. The category's Integrity Index is updated in real time.
